Parents are like the proverbial mother hen that protects its chicks from the hawks, among other dangers. Once this covering is gone, the chicks are exposed to the vagaries of life. No matter what age, the departure of one’s parents is a big loss. The loss is worse felt when one is a minor.
All over the world, there are kids who have lost their parents, with no family member claiming responsibility for their welfare. They become fathers and mothers unto themselves. Statistics have it that there are 13.8 million children ages 0-17 that have lost one or both parents due to AIDS, war, other forms of violence, and other forms of vicissitudes. Combining all ages, there are 140 million orphans in the world today.
Africa alone contributes 30%, making up 52 million, of the world’s orphan community. The number of orphans is expected to rise with increasing wars, deforestation, the decline in yields from agriculture, bad governance, and a spike in blood pressure.
This is an emergency. With the situation, we have put our hands on deck and are inviting every well-meaning person to do the same to enable all of us to own the problem and collectively achieve a lasting result.
At PMDAfrica, we have marshaled out the following strategy to ensure a permanent solution is achieved.
- Subsidized education programs for orphans across Africa.
- Our food hubs which will be set up across rural areas will enable vulnerable people, especially orphans, to have access to food weekly (Fridays and Sundays).
- Health insurance for orphans and widows.
- Affirmative action for orphans and widows in the provision of grants and aids for business.
- Crafts and trade for self-reliance.
- Earnings on UFEDO every time a person has shopped.
These and many more programs which would be undergoing progressive tweaking to meet rising needs take care of the pressing needs that may arise from time to time.
We have a mandate at PMDAfrica to lift 50,000 to 100,000 people from poverty every five years. They will include orphans, widows, and other vulnerable people who are most hit by the ravaging scourge of poverty.
Join us today as we chant death to poverty in Africa!
